Drift
Marble Technique
- Step by Step
1. Apply
white base coat.
2. Mix three glazes by combing equal parts Pro
Faux Scumble Glaze, paint conditioner and paint.
3. Dampen No. 28 Filbert Brush;
spin out excess water. Coat surface with mix of three parts
glazing liquid to one part conditioner.
4. Apply a small amount of raw sienna glaze diagonally into
the wet surface using filbert brush. Repeat with raw umber
glaze. For a warmer feel, use more raw sienna; for a cooler
feel, use more raw umber.
5. Dampen the feather; squeeze out excess moisture. Load black
glaze sparingly on feather tips. Tap speckled veins along
the diagonal lines. Place a few specks of paint outside the
major drifts.
6. Gather a piece of plastic at both ends and roll lightly
like a rolling pin in the direction of the marble drifts.
The plastic will pick up some of the color as well as redeposit
some color as you move it along the drift.
7. Using a Bristle Softener Brush,
lightly dab the surface. Soften perpendicular to the drifts,
then parallel to the drifts.
