Elephant Hide
Feature from Better Homes & Gardens, Do It Yourself Special Interest Publication, Fall '95
Paint and white tissue paper team up to create this lightly textured finish that's perfect for walls in low traffic areas.

Elephant Hide Technique - Step by Step

1. Prime and paint the surface white.
2. Fold the sheets of white tissue paper into quarters. Tear off straight edges. Gently crumple and uncrumple the ripped tissue paper.
3. Coat the painted surface with Pro Faux Scumble Glaze as a glue for the tissue paper. Starting at one corner, lay one irregular section of tissue paper into the wet glazing liquid ; gently reapply the glazing liquid. To completely cover the surface, overlap each piece of tissue paper. Allow folds and wrinkles to develop as you place the tissue paper.
4. Let tissue paper dry overnight.
5. Seal with a coat of white pigmented shellac. Let dry for at least an hour.
6. Create a glaze by mixing equal parts of a color latex paint, paint conditioner, and latex glazing liquid.
7. Apply glaze with a No. 28 Filbert Brush, dragging the brush at a 45-degree angle across the wet glaze. Use firm pressure at first; lighter pressure to finish.
